THE SOUTH BANK SHOW : AKRAM KHAN (60’ for ITV, 2002)
In the early 2000’s, Akram Khan started to emerge as a dancer and choreographer with world class potential. Born in London to Bangladeshi parents, the first love of this hyperactive child was, in fact, Michael Jackson. But spurred on by his mother, he began to take lessons in Indian classical dance and by his mid-teens it was clear he was a gifted dancer. By his mid-twenties and after studying dance in London and India, Khan had become one Britain’s most original and eclectic dancers. Shot in London and Delhi, this film follows Khan as he puts together his latest piece, Kaash, with music by Nitin Sawhney and design by Anish Kapoor.
